In Depth Structured Textual Analysis Questions A tabloid is a half sized newspaper, almost like a magazine, which is particularly suited to a high degree of photographic representation. Characteristics of a tabloid paper such as The Sun would include bold poster style layout and of course cheaper full page advertising and more regular single slots which appeal to advertisers who feel a their product is better promoted in a spot on its own, the tabloid category can also be sub-divided as there is a split between the popular dailies such as The Sun and The Mirror and papers such as the Daily Express and Daily Mail who have both changed from broadsheet to a tabloid in recent years. The news from the newspapers such as The Sun are often deemed to state false or over exaggerated views on certain subjects, people, world issues and events. It is mainly used for 'gossip' purposes hence the comparison to a magazine as well as its small attributes. The fact that the sun is only twenty pence on a daily basis means that the public do not have to spend much on finding out the news that they are entitled too. The fact that it is one of Britain’s cheapest newspapers, has a combination with the ever apparent recession that has hit many people and do not have the money to waste. The fact that topless women are used both on the front cover or on the historically known 'page 3' models prove that the papers are mainly for male interest however some attributes such as the Dear Deidre column, in which the agony aunt tries to sort out the public’s problems, are aimed towards the female audience.
